History of Gailes The history of Gailes came about when the 1823 exploration of Mr John Oxley gave the place’s local high point the name Dingo Hill. This led to the creation of the local railway of the same name for the station. It was not until 1925 when Dingo Hill has renamed the Gailes Railway station. It takes after the Western Gailes Golf Club back in Scotland. It was said that the name of the Gailes suburb was named to mean overgrown.
