Overview Girraween is a suburb of Sydney, situated 30 kilometres west of the central business district. It is within the LGA of Cumberland Council and is neighboured by the suburbs of Toongabbie, Pendle Hill, Pemulwuy, Greystanes, and Wentworthville. The suburb has a population of 5,590 based on the 2016 census.

History of Girraween Girraween is an Aboriginal term that means “place of flowers”. Before the European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Darug people.
The land where the suburb is located was once part of the estate of D’Arcy Wentworth, a surgeon from Ireland who was the first paying passenger to arrive in the newly established colony in New South Wales. The nearby suburb of Wentworthville was named in honour of D’Arcy.
