History of Greystanes Greystanes got its name from the colour "Grey" and "Stanes", the Scottish term for stones. It comes from basalt, an outcrop on Prospect Hill.

Most of Greystanes' early residents were from Malta. They operated poultry farms in the area, and their Baiada Chickens, Cordina Chickens, and Pace Farm Eggs became popular in Australia.

Greystanes was developed into a residential suburb in the 1950s and 1960s.
