Overview Prospect is a suburb in the Greater Western Sydney region. About 32 km west of Sydney, the suburb is located on the western fringe of Paramatta toward Blacktown. One of the oldest suburbs of New South Wales, it is under the administration of the Blacktown city council. According to the 2016 census, 4,716 residents were living in Prospect. Once a colony of emancipated convicts, it is now a bustling locality. Charles Darwin, the father of evolution theory, visited the place in 1836.

History of Prospect Prospect is named after Prospect Hill, the most notable landmark in the area, which itself was named by Lieutenant Watkin Tench in 1790. In 1791, emancipated convicts got land grants and started settlements in the area. This led to conflict with the natives. Pemulwuy, the leader of the Bidjigal clan, fought a 12-year guerrilla war to dislodge the Europeans from Prospect. The area witnessed many pitched battles during the Australian Frontier War.
