History of Homebush West The area was initially called “Flemington” by John Fleming, who received a grant of 200 acres of land here. The name Homebush West describes its geographical location - west of the suburb of Homebush - which was named after an estate built in this area.
In 1882, the land was purchased by the Underwood Estate and subdivisions in the land began. The streets (which still survives today) were named after various areas in southern England.
