Overview Lidcombe is a suburb based in the west portion of Sydney. Nestled 15 km from the city, it is part of Cumberland Council. A small section of its industry is within Parramatta City. Its neighbouring areas include Auburn, Regents Park, Silverwater, Newington, Homebush West, and Rookwood. At the southeast of the area is the biggest cemetery in the Southern Hemisphere, the Rookwood Cemetery. 28,675 people were residing in the suburb back in 2016.

History of Lidcombe The earliest settler of Lidcombe was Samuel Haslam, who owned an expansive stretch along Haslams Creek in 1804. The Rookwood Cemetery was previously called Haslam’s Creek Cemetery but was later changed after the request of the residents. Rookwood then became a separate suburb while the area beside it was then referred to as Lidcombe after the former mayors in the area―Henry John Larcombe and Frederick Lidbury.
