History of Hurstville
The name Hurstville comes from the English ‘Hurst”, which defines ‘a wooded eminence’ while the term ‘Ville’ means ‘town’. The area was first inhabited by Indigenous Australians who resided in the Eora tribe and spanned along the Georges River. The First Fleet arrived in the area during 1788 within the boundaries of the Hurstville City at Lugarno and Oatley and Lime Kiln Bay on the Georges River. Today, the suburb has experienced pretty much development and is home to many beautiful places and landmarks.
