History of Kearneys Spring The suburb of Kearneys Spring was named after Toowoomba alderman, magistrate, and deputy mayor D. J. Kearney. The family-owned a dairy farm in this area. The suburb had an early irrigation system that used wooden pipes to transport water from the springs. The irrigation system was the water supply source of Toowoomba. Kearneys Spring is part of the waters of the Gowrie Creek and West Creek that run through the suburb's north. The waterways that formed the moist landscape drew the European settlers to Toowoomba.
