History of Harristown The history of Harristown is fascinating. It was named after the Brisbane businessman and Member of the Queensland Legislative council, George Harris. It was initially called the Shire of Drayton, which turned into the Harristown Estate. The Estate has a vast collection of 177 building sites. By 1993, the suburb already had a functioning railway station but had not yet reached urbanisation until after World War II.
When the Great Depression happened, schools could not be established in the area. It was not until 1946 that the Concordia Lutheran College was opened to the public.
