Overview Located within the City of Boroondara local government area, Kew East is a suburb bordered by Ivanhoe East, Kew, Balwyn, and Alphington. It is 8 kilometres east of the Melbourne Central Business District. The 2016 census records its population at 6,669.
Living in Kew East Kew East has several shopping centres. Harp Village, located on High Street, is the largest of them. Another commercial strip can be found on Belford Road. Kew East has two co-ed government schools, Kew East Primary School and Kew High School. St Annes Catholic School also provides education for P-6.

History of Kew East* Land auctions in the 1840s have led to the establishment of farming and grazing activities along the Yarra River. After opening the Kew East Post Office in 1924, many farm and grazing lands were converted into residential plots.
