Overview Kiels Mountain is a rural locality in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It is located 9.3 km southeast of Nambour and 14.1 km west of Maroochydore, 30.2 km northwest of Caloundra, and 101 km north of Brisbane. Kiels Mountain had a population of 664 people, as recorded in the 2016 census.

History of Kiels Mountain Kiels Mountain is named after a settler who settled on the eastern slopes in 1880, Heinrich ‘Henry’ August Keil. He was the son of one of the early Lutheran settlers of Brisbane. Kiels Mountain school was opened in 1918 and closed in 1962. As far as the original inhabitants are concerned, the local Aborigines occupied the area.
