History of Woombye It was at the very beginning referred to as Middles Camp and subsequently as Cobb’s Camp. 17th of August 1885 marks the opening of Cobbs Camp Provisional School, although it got renamed in 1892 as Woombye State School, and a preschool was added to it in 1977. The locality got its current name in the 1880s, and it was named after a Kabi word that translates to black myrtle tree that was useful to produce the axe handles. It emerged as a North-coast railway station for Yandina from Landsborough in 1891 and until 1914.
