History of Diddillibah The earliest farm selections in Diddillibah happened in the 1860s, along the banks of Petrie Creek. Land selections took place quickly as there were plans to build sugar mills and a railway in the area. Besides growing sugar care, timber cutting was also an industry in Diddillibah. Cut timbers cut floated downstream for milling.

A school opened in Diddillibah in 1885, which continued to operate until 1962.

It is believed that Diddillibah was coined after an Aboriginal expression indicating a carpet snake. The town’s name was spelled Didillibah (with a single “d”) until 1994.
