History of Kirrawee According to the Sutherland Shire Council, there are two possible theories behind Kirrawee’s name. The first one is it originated from the Aboriginal term that means lengthy. The second theory is it refers to a Dharawal word that means place of white cockatoos. From 1912 to 1979, the suburb focused on various industrial services. Afterwards, a deep pit was discovered within the area, which then became a natural lagoon. Over the years, this was developed and is now the location of the Kirrawee Brick Pit.
