Overview Located to the northwest of Melbourne, Kurunjang is a part of the City of Melton local administration. An integral part of the historical Aboriginal culture, the suburb is 36 km from Melbourne. According to the 2016 census, Kurunjang was home to 10,070 people, including many technicians, traders and professionals.

History of Kurunjang Kurunjang got its name from an Aboriginal clan named Kurung Jang Balluk, which once dominated the eastern plains of the Werribee River. Positioned to the north of modern-day Melton, the place's name means "the red-earth estate." This is primarily due to the red volcanic soil of the area from after which the dominant clan was called.
European settlers first arrived in Kurunjang around the 1840s and engaged in animal husbandry. The area saw gradual growth and soon became the home to a multicultural and multireligious population. It became part of Greater Melbourne Metropolitan in 2010.
