*History of Maleny Maleny became a municipality in 1891 after an official declaration. Maleny is most likely taken from the parish name, which originated after the Scottish town name Malleny, located in Midlothian, Scotland. Dallambara and Nalbo, two ancient Gubbi Gubbi linguistic groups, once inhabited the border region Maleny. Furthermore, Maleny Community Centre has supplied locals and tourists with various activities immediately after the beginning of the twentieth century. The first facility was constructed as a product of a donation from one of the town's citizens and is located in the city's heart.
