Overview North Maleny is a suburb situated in the Sunshine Coast Region in Queensland. The suburb is neighboured by the localities of Witta, Montville, Maleny and Balmoral Ridge. Lake Baroon, an important recreational area in the region, is found on its northeast side.
Based on the 2016 census, North Maleny has a population of 621.
Living in North Maleny There are a couple of establishments and businesses located on the southern border of North Maleny, near the town of Maleny. The Beersheba Living Museum, Maleny Golf Club, Maleny Wildlife Holiday House, and a native plant nursery are found in this area.
In the north part of town, where Lake Baroon is located, are a sailing club, fishing club, naval cadet unit, some accommodations, and picnic facilities. The Secrets on the Lake, a resort with an art gallery, could also be found here.
History of North Maleny The suburb is named for its geographic location, being north of the suburb of Maleny. It is suggested that Maleny was derived from the parish name, which was, in turn, named after the Scottish village of Malleny in Midlothian, Scotland.
The town’s first school, Melany Provisional School, opened here in 1909, later renamed Melany North State School. This school closed in 1914 but reopened in 1992 and was finally closed in 1953.
