Living in Montville Montville had a logging and farming history until it experienced a tourism boom during the late 1900s. History of Montville Europeans first settled in Montville in the late 1800s. The town was named Razorback, but this was later changed to Montville as proposed by storekeeper Henry Smith (who owned a vast piece of land in the area). The name was taken from Montville, a town in Connecticut, USA.
