History of Marysville The town was first surveyed in 1864, during which it served as a stopping point on the Yarra Track. The suburb was named after Mary Steavenson, who is the wife of the Assistant Commissioner of Roads and Bridges John Steavenson. It was a well-known tourist destination in 1920 but came under serious threat following the Black Friday bushfires in 1939.
