Overview Monterey is a neighbourhood in southernmost Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 15 kilometres south of Sydney's business district. Monterey falls under the jurisdiction of the Bayside Municipality. Moreover, it is located on Botany Bay's western shoreline.
Living in Monterey Monterey is a pristine "Green and Blue" town with plenty of parklands and coastlines. Several million-dollar houses on the exclusive avenues branch off the "Grand Parade," like Burlington, Hollywood, Pasadena, Culver, and many others. It is an elite and closely controlled peninsula community that offers most of the same amenities as neighbouring Brighton-Le-Sands but in a much calmer setting.
History of Monterey Monterey was previously a section of Brighton-Le-Sands and Ramsgate. As the neighbourhood grew, place names with Californian flair were chosen, including Hollywood, Monterey, Pasadena, and Culver. Chuter Avenue, which is near Monterey Street, was developed with a small set of stores. So when the post office first operated here, this was recognized as the Monterey postal service. Rockdale Council sought to build a new community. However, not everybody approved of that name since some believed it was too American, particularly given several of the place names existing in the region. Nevertheless, Monterey became officially recognized as a neighbourhood in 1972 since the majority of residents supported it.
