Overview Mooroobool is a suburb of Cairns in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It is located 5.4 km west of the Cairns central business district. It had a population of 7,222 people as surveyed in the 2016 census.

History of Mooroobool Mooroobool was named on September 1, 1973, by the Queensland Place Names Board. The name represents the geographical feature of the suburb, the Mooroobool Peak; the peak is located west of the suburb and named after an Aboriginal word which means ‘meeting of the waters’. The suburb is situated in the Yidinji traditional Aboriginal country. Kingsford Street of the suburb is named after the mayor of Cairns, Richard Ash Kingsford. On February 2, 1954, Balaclava State School opened, and the development of the area started.
