Living in Moorooka Moorooka has large areas in the elevated eastern side of the suburb, the lower areas at the western side, and light industries and warehouses along Ipswich Road. The suburb is served by Brisbane Transport buses and is well connected with other suburbs. Moorvale is the main shopping area located on Beaudesert Road. The shopping centre features many takeaways, restaurants, coffee shops, jewellers, discount stores, and more. It has two main churches: the Church of the Christ and St Brendan’s Roman Catholic Church. Some houses are pre-war Queenslanders with wooden construction, while others are small apartments.

History of Moorooka The word Moorooka is an indigenous word that means ‘iron bark’, referring to the plentiful ironbark trees in the area. Moorooka was the traditional land of the Australian Aboriginal Jagera people, and they used to live in the area long before British settlement. Also, the site is believed to be a hunting ground as it was full of food and water. The suburb was initially founded as a stop-over for journeys from south Brisbane and southwest Ipswich and beyond.
