History of Mount Lawley Mount Lawley was named in honour of the Governor of Western Australia (1901 to 1902) - Sir Arthur Lawley. It was granted to John Gregory and William Layton when built on land surveyed between 1833 and 1839. When Gregory established the Pineapple Inn in the 1830s, the area became renowned as a stopping place for wanderers. The subdivision of Mount Lawley began in 1892. In 1900, Samuel Copley and Robinson acquired land, later developed as the Mount Lawley Estate.
