History of Mount Macedon Mount Macedon was discovered by William Hove and Hamilton Hume during their 1824 Port Philip exploration. The original name of the place was Mount Wentworth. However, it was replaced with its current name by Major Thomas Mitchell. The earliest structure in the township is the post office, which was formerly called Mount Macedon. The post office, however, was renamed Kyneton in 1854. During the 19th century, the township served as the summer retreat spot among the wealthy elites.
