History of Riddells Creek Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation originally inhabited the land on which Riddells Creek was built. The town was founded by John Carre Riddell and Thomas Ferrier Hamilton in 1841 and is also named after them. The Riddells Creek Post Office opened on 1 February 1859. The well-known Rowallan Recreation and Adventure Camp opened in 1950 and is named in honour of Lord Rowallan, the Chief Scout of the British Commonwealth and Empire, and the Governor of Tasmania.
