It has a distance of 12 km from the Brisbane CBD area. It is bordered by a few suburbs such as Tarragindi, Holland Park West, Mount Gravatt, Salisbury, Upper Mount Gravatt, Coopers Plains, Robertson, and MacGregor.

It is the site of the Nathan campus of Griffith University along with the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (home of the 1982 Commonwealth Games).
