History of Perwillowen The town’s name is an Aboriginal term that means pigeons. Over the years, its name was spelt as Pillywillman, Pillawillamon, Pillewilliman and Perwillowan.
The locality’s first school, Perwillowen Provisional School, was established on 15 May 1916. It was renamed Perwillowen State school in 1923. The school, however, closed in 1930 because of a low number of students enrolling. The school opened again in July of 1923 but finally closed its doors in 1959.
