Overview Picton is a small but beautiful town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 80 kilometres southwest of Sydney and close to Camden and Campbelltown. Also, the town is the administrative centre of Wollondilly Shire. As per the 2016 census, the population of the area was recorded as 4,816 people.

It also has several heritage-listed facilities, including Hume Highway Deviation, Picton railway station, Oaks Road, Victoria Bridge, and Stonequarry Creek railway viaduct.
History of Picton In 1798, Europeans first explored the town, but it remained unsettled until 1821. It was during 1819 when Governor Macquarie authorised the new Great South Road. This opens up the boundaries of the town to the settlers. In 1822, Henry Colden Antill established a 2,000-acre property. The area began to develop when a new line of the Great South Road was cut over the Razorback Range from Camden. This development took speed when the railway arrived in 1863.
