Overview Tahmoor is a small town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, part of the Wollondilly Shire area in Australia. It is neighboured by the following localities: Thirlmere, Couridjah, Picton, Bargo, and Pheasants Nest. As of the 2016 census, the population of Tahmoor was 5,068.

History of Tahmoor The town of Tahmoor was originally named Myrtle Creek and used to be a farming area on the Great Southern Road. It was later renamed the Hume Highway. The new Main Southern Railway line opened up in 1919 and included a station named “Tahmoor”. Hence, the town got its name, which is said to be a local Aboriginal word for the common Bronzewing, a pigeon native to the area. Most of the current houses in Tahmoor were built in the 1970s and 1980s.
