History of Port Hacking The suburb’s name is the same as the name of the nearby estuary. Thomas Holt held most of the land between Sutherland and Cronulla, including this area. Francis Mitchell had 20 acres of land on this location in 1840. In 1858, Mary and Andrew Webster paid 108 pounds and 15 shillings for their land in this region. In 1863, the Websters sold their land to Dominick Dolan.
