Overview Burraneer is a suburb that is located in Southern Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Sutherland Shire local government area and the federal division of Cook. This suburb sits on a peninsula of Burraneer Point along the northern shore of the Port Hacking estuary. It is bordered by two bays in the eastern and western parts. Woolooware is the only suburb that neighbours Burraneer.

History of Burraneer The name Burraneer Bay was first recorded in 1827 after Robert Dixon surveyed it. Like the other bays in the area, this name was also derived from an Aboriginal name source.
