Overview Rydalmere is a suburb in the Greater Western Sydney region of New South Wales. This suburb covers an area of 2 square kilometres with an elevation of 12 metres above sea level. It is part of the City of Parramatta local government area. From Sydney CBD, it has an approximate distance of 21 km. It is bound by Oatlands, Dundas, and Melrose Park to the north, Camellia, Rosehill, and Silverwater to the south, Parramatta to the west, and Ermington to the east.
Living in Rydalmere Rydalmere is a family-oriented suburb that is located within close proximity to major transport hubs and various businesses. It is known as a leafy suburb with access to great schools. The population consists of families with kids and professionals. There is no train station within the suburb after the Rydalmere train station was closed. However, there is one in nearby Dundas. There are also ferry services that cross the Parramatta River and some bus routes operating in and out of the suburb. Aside from the residential developments, there are also a few commercial areas in Rydalmere, along with light manufacturing and industrial areas.
History of Rydalmere Before the arrival of the Europeans in 1791, the area that comprised Rydalmere and its neighbouring suburbs of Dundas and Ermington were collectively known as “The Ponds”. Over time it became known as the “Field of Mars”. It is theorised that the suburb is named after Rydal Lake, which is a lake in The English Lake District.
