History of Sharon The locality of Sharon was named after the “Sharon Plain” in Israel. In 1882, a Methodist Sunday School was established by the Workman family. The locality also got its first Methodist Church in 1897. On 30 April 1945, the St. Stephen’s Angelic Church was dedicated by Rural Dean Reverend N.C.C. Bertram, and it closed down in September of 1991. Sharon is also home to the heritage-listed site of Splitters Creek Railway Bridge
