Springwood is located 5.9 kilometres of Logan Central and 22.3 kilometres southeast of Brisbane. It is part of the local government area of Logan City.

The campus of Calvary Christian College is also in Springwood. The suburb has 17 parks covering 9% of its total area.

When the South East Freeway to the City of Brisbane was planned, the development of Springwood was also included because it was along the freeway. The freeway was completed in 1985.
