History of Rochedale South One of the oldest settlers in the area is the Gill family. In 1951, they acquired a section of land and developed it into a poultry farm and piggery. In the latter years, they transitioned into sewerage, which then became the first in the region. The term Rochedale originated from the Irish immigrant, Thomas Roche. He was a distinguished resident during the 1870s. In 1979, Rochedale South was officially separated from the Rochedale expanse. Before the commercialisation of Rochedale South, the suburb was recognised for its rich soil. This led to an abundance of farming within the area. However, this came to an end because of the continuous drought.
