History of Stones Corner The area of Stones Corner was known as Burnett’s Swamp. The triangle of land at the South-East junction of Logan Road and Old Cleveland Road was purchased by James Stone in 1875. He could not get a license for running a hotel at this location, so instead, he started brewing and selling ginger beer. As a result, the area was named “Stones Corner” and developed into a suburb soon after. The Stones Corner Hotel was opened in 1888 as the Junction Hotel. The Stones Corner Library opened on 25 January 1950.
