History of Taigum The Turrbal Aboriginals were living in Taigum when Europeans arrived there. A settler named Frederick Drew established a dairy farm named “Tyghum” at the present-day Beckett Road of the suburb. Soon it became a prominent place in the area, which was referred to by the name of the dairy. In 1891, there was a proposal to change the name to the Tyghum Divisional Board. But it was rejected, and Taigum became part of the Kedron Divisional Board in 1901. It was known as Zillmere North until 1993, when the name Taigum was officially accepted.
