It measures a total land area of 3.7 square kilometres and is situated 14 km from the CBD area of Brisbane. Zillmere is bordered by a few suburbs such as Carseldine, Fitzgibbon, Taigum, Aspley, Chermside, Geebung, and Virginia.
Living in Zillmere Zillmere is a suburb that is approximately 60% residential and 40% industrial. It is most notable for its heritage-listed sites that include well-preserved French homes. Many of these homes were built after the Second World War and are mostly prefabricated homes.
Today, it has continued its suburban development that includes the rise of a shopping district. This is part of the Brisbane City Council's urban renewal project. Zillmere is also home to the O'Callaghan Park. History of Zillmere The area of Zillmere, along with the entire region near Brisbane River, was historically inhabited by the Turrbal people. When the Europeans arrived in the area, they changed the suburb's name in honour of Johann Leopold Zillman, a Lutheran missionary who served at a nearby station.
