History of Aspley Before the Europeans settled in this area, it was inhabited by the Australian aborigines. When Brisbane was declared a free settlement in 1842, the European settlers began exploring other locations outside of Brisbane, including Aspley. It was known as North Chermside before it was changed in the mid-1970s.
