History of Chermside The Europeans first settled in Chermside in the late 1900s. The first land in Chermside was sold in 1866. The population of the area saw a remarkable increase because of the residential development after the war.

The Gympie gold rush that started in 1867 brought many gold hunters to the north. Travellers had to struggle passing through a creek. That creek was first called Downfall Creek, and today, it is known as the suburb of Chermside.
