The Wallamettagul clan were the first inhabitants of the town before colonial landowners took over the place. In 1900, a mini-tornado hit Telopea, leaving the houses in the area with no roofs and wrecked chimneys. The construction to turn Telopea into the residential suburb that it is today began after World War II. The town is still being constantly redeveloped to accommodate modern changes and a larger population.
