Overview Terrey Hills is a suburb of Northern Sydney. It is in New South Wales, Australia, and is located 25 km north of the Sydney central business district. It lies within the local government area of Northern Beaches Council. It forms an important part of the Forest District and Northern Beaches. In the 2016 census, the population of Terrey Hills was recorded as 3,041 people.

There is a shopping centre which includes a Friendly Grocer supermarket, a Post Office, specialty shops, and several restaurants. It has all the essential services such as State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue, and the Citizens Radio Emergency Services Team. These services base themselves in Terrey Hills, near the vast national parks. Moreover, the suburb has a Rural Fire Station adjacent to the Frank Beckman Reserve, and it is the primary fire-fighting agency for the village. History of Terrey Hills Terrey Hills is considered the “laterite capital” of the Sydney Basin. The suburb got its name from two landholders Samuel Hills and Obediah James Terrey. They owned 100 acres and 640 acres of land in the area, respectively. Before European settlement, most of the area was used by indigenous people. The rock carvings pointing to that era still exist in some places. One epic set of carvings has hunting scenes with kangaroos, human figures, and footprints. In 1935, a post office opened, and development began.
