Torquay and Wondunna surround this suburb along Hervey Bay on the west and Booral on the south. Boundary Road and Elizabeth Road intersect at the centre, while Boat Harbour Drive traverses through the north section and extends to the neighbouring areas. History of Urangan The term Urangan is derived from either two Kabi words―yuangan or yerengen. The former means dugong while the latter means small smell fish. The first European to explore around the Great Sandy Strait was Lieutenant Joseph Dayman, who navigated the area in 1846. He was behind the local landmarks in the suburb, the Dayman Spit and Dayman Point.
