History of Varsity Lakes In 1873, Mayor Thomas Blacket Stephens of Brisbane bought almost 7,000 acres of the Gold Coast hinterland, including where Varsity Lakes is located. After his purchase, Stephens began draining the swamps to establish his first dairy named “Hill View”.
Around 1981, the south section of the property was formally named Stephens in honour of its owner. Almost two decades later, the land between Stephens and Robina was purchased to begin the real estate development called Varsity Lakes. In 2002, Stephens, Andrews and a portion of Robina were amalgamated, forming the suburb of Varsity Lakes.
