Overview Lying 62 kilometres north of Melbourne, Wallan is a key town in the Shire of Mitchell region. It serves as an entry point to the nearby Kilmore, Seymour, and Broadford. It is served by the V/Line network of the Seymour train line and bus services to and from Barmah to Southern Cross stations. Recently, it has seen substantial growth in housing, particularly in the northern Hidden Valley area. According to the 2016 census, Wallan had a population of 8,520.
Living in Wallan Wallan has recreational facilities and commercial areas, namely, the Wellington Square Shopping Centre that includes a Safeway and Coles. History of Wallan Taking its name from the local word for "a large place of water," Wallan was a wetland before it grew out of a post office in 1858. In 1997, the Hidden Valley Housing Development eventually developed into a residential estate, complete with shops and a golf course.
