Overview Beveridge is a suburb in Victoria, Australia. It is located 42 kilometres north of Melbourne along the Hume Highway. The suburb is governed by the City of Whittlesea and Mitchell Shire. According to the 2016 census, the population of the area was recorded as 2,330.
Living in Beveridge Beveridge is a peaceful area hidden off the highway and offers a beautiful view. It provides close access to shops, general stores, restaurants, and some recreational parks. Kelly House is a popular attraction of the area as this is the same house where the Kelly family lived for a short time. It is still standing and located on Kelly Street. History of Beveridge The origin of name was after a shepherd and grazier called Andrew Beveridge. He arrived in the area in the 1840s and built the Hunters’ Tryst Inn in 1845. The Hunters Inn is now a heritage site and serves as a hotel, post office, and general store. In 1865, Beveridge Post Office was opened. The town is also known as the birthplace of bushranger Ned Kelly, and he lived in the area for the first nine years of his life. He used land near the Big Hill for farming which is now popular with the name of Mount Fraser. It is also believed that before the European settlement, the area around the town as used by members for the Woiworung Aboriginal group.
