The suburb sits at an elevation of 87 metres above sea level and is adjacent to a few neighbouring suburbs such as Narrabeen, Collaroy Plateau, and Cromer.

It is home to various native plants and trees (there are over 900 species of them!) that thrive in the coastal sand dunes and estuaries located within the suburb. History of Wheeler Heights The Wheeler family from England inhabited the area. They were among the first few settlers in the area, and they built the Wheeler Estate on this land. After the Second World War, the estate was destroyed, and the suburb was named after them. It was officially established as a suburb in 1977 until it became a locality in 1984. It was re-established as a suburb in 2011.
