Overview Narrabeen is a beachside suburb of Sydney, located 23 kilometres northeast of Sydney’s central business district. It is in the LGA of the Nothern Beaches Council, and its neighbouring suburbs are north Narrabeen, Warriewood, Wheeler Heights, Collaroy Plateau, and Collaroy. The suburb is in between two bodies of water, with the Narrabeen Lagoon to its west and the Pacific Ocean to its east.
As per the 2016 census, Narrabeen has a population of 8,207.
Living in Narrabeen Four beaches are found along the stretch within the suburb, including Narrabeen Beach, one of Australia’s most iconic swimming and surfing beaches. The area is a “breeding ground” of some of the world’s best surfing champions.

History of Narrabeen There are several theories as to where the suburb got its name. It is believed that the place was named after “narrow beans”, which were said to the found by the English settlement in 1788 growing from a vine over the sandy shore. Another theory was that Narrabeen was an Aboriginal word for “swan”. However, the most popular theory was that the suburb was named after a young Aboriginal girl named Narrabine/Narrabeen, who helped soldiers capture the convicts involved in a massacre that took place in the area.
