Overview Yamanto is a residential suburb located 5 km southwest of Ipswich Central in Queensland, Australia. It is approximately 47 km southwest of the Brisbane CBD area. The suburb covers 8.5 square kilometres and is home to 4,906 people (as of 2016). Among the surrounding suburbs of Yamanto are Amberley, One Mile, Churchill, Purga, Flinders View, Ripley, and Deebing Heights.

Due to its proximity to the RAAF Base, most of the students in the suburb’s only state primary school are those whose parents are part of the defence forces, with some even living in the airbase. The construction of the Cunningham Highway facilitated the opening of a drive-in shopping centre in Yamanto, which added to the town’s existing shopping centre along Warwick Road. The suburb is also home to a couple of hotels and two kindergartens.
History of Yamanto The area of Yamanto is a former cotton plantation, and it was initially called Yamahanto. It also went by other names like Loamside and Mine Accident before it officially became known as Yamanto. In 2015, this suburb saw a rapid rate of development following the ongoing work on the adjacent Ripley Valley, Queensland. The expansion of the RAAF Base Amberley located nearby also saw the influx of businesses to the area.
