It is neighboured by the following suburbs: Essendon, Essendon West, Maribyrnong, and Moonee Ponds. As of the 2016 census, the population of Aberfeldie was 25,939.

History of Aberfeldie James Robertson, a Scotsman, named his property Aberfeldie, which was located on the corner of Aberfeldie Street and Park Crescent, after the Scottish town Aberfeldy. When the property was sold in 1888, the name of the suburb was derived from it. The Polish Catholic church on the corner of Alma Street and Aberfeldie street was sanctified by Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, who went on to become Pope John Paul II in 1978.
